Suzanne welcomes the opportunity to read The Black Velvet Jacket to children in your community.
Reading Presentation

The reading starts with a lively discussion about hopes, dreams, and wishes.
After the book reading, the children are encouraged to provide a summary and a possible future for Phillip, the main character in the book.
Discussion and reading time is approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
If time is available, the children can try on the original Black Velvet Jacket!

Reading & Book Signing at: Parkdale Elementary School, Montreal, Qc
This is an amazing experience. As children try on the jacket, they are able to measure themselves to the size of Phillip, the main character in the book.
Allotted time for trying on the jacket depends on the number of children participating.

Reading with Art & Keepsake Activity
Following the reading, children can participate in fun art activity. The main elements of the book are discussed: (1) hopes, dreams, and wishes, (2) keepsakes and hidden treasures. The children are encouraged to illustrate themselves in a picture showing their own hopes, dreams, and wishes.

For example, if a child wishes to be a dancer, they draw themselves as a dancer. If a child wishes to be a doctor, they draw themselves as a doctor.
When the children are finished drawing, their illustrations are dated, named, and the age of the child is placed on the drawing. The drawings are then sealed in a decorated envelope. The children now have a keepsake!
Each decorated envelope has the child’s name and date on it. The children are encouraged to keep their keepsake sealed for many years. Hopefully, when they are older, this keepsake will be a hidden treasure just like the Black Velvet Jacket.
The book reading combined with the art activity is approximately 60 minutes.
The Black Velvet Jacket is available for purchase at the readings.
